Recipe Steps
Today, we’re going to prepare a little compote with summer flavors (because yes, it’s still summer!). I wanted to create an original compote, and I had already tasted the combination of strawberries and red bell pepper in a restaurant. That’s what inspired me to transform it into a compote for Alix. The result: a resounding success! She was pleasantly surprised by the taste, smiled in amazement, and asked for more. 🙂
As I mentioned, it may sound surprising to have red bell pepper in a dessert, ice cream, or compote… but once you try it, you’ll want more!
Red bell pepper is the sweetest among all the bell peppers and is generally well-liked by babies. This compote is a great way to introduce a vegetable into the diet of babies who might be hesitant about savory flavors—it’s a good start, at least. 😉 It’s a vegetable rich in vitamin C (more than oranges and kiwis!) and antioxidants.
So, we’ll combine it with strawberries, a little marvel of nature that we adore, and add some apple to soften the compote.
Here’s what you’ll need to cook this baby compote recipe of strawberry, apple, and red bell pepper (From 6 months, makes about 4.5 oz of compote):
Ingredients
- 1.76 oz (50g) of red bell pepper
- 1.94 oz (55g) of apple (Golden, about 1/4 of an apple)
- 2.82 oz (80g) of strawberries
Preparation
We’ll start by washing our apple. Peel about 1/4 of it (I got 1.94 oz after peeling). Cut the apple into small cubes and place them in a steamer basket.
Next, let’s prepare the red bell pepper. Wash it and cut a piece from the bottom, where there are no seeds. Peel this part and remove any white parts if there are any. I obtained 1.76 oz of peeled red bell pepper. It’s important to peel it because the skin is not very digestible in the bell pepper. 😉
Cooking
Place the piece of red bell pepper in the steamer basket, and the cooking process can begin (we’ll take care of our strawberries later). Steam it for 6 minutes!
In the meantime, let’s wash our strawberries (about 7 medium-sized ones). Remove the stems and patiently wait for the red bell pepper and apple to finish cooking.
Once the cooking is done, add our strawberries to the steamer basket (without removing the bell pepper and apple), and steam for another 2 minutes.
There you go! It’s done! Now, let’s blend everything together.
Once blended, let the compote cool down before serving it to your baby for a delightful snack.
Our strawberry, apple, and red bell pepper baby compote recipe (from 6 months) is now complete, and your baby can enjoy it to the fullest!
Bon appétit, baby! 😉
