A delicious ratatouille to warm up your baby, what could be better? With rice for added texture, it’s just PERFECT! And let’s not forget the nutritional benefits of eggplant, zucchini, tomato, and bell pepper… a powerhouse of vitamins and flavors, ideal for continuing your baby’s food diversification!
We add onion and garlic for exceptional taste.
This recipe can be given from 8 months. We’ll introduce some texture by partially blending our vegetables (ensuring we don’t completely smooth it out by using low power on our blender) and adding rice.
Rice pairs well with a tasty ratatouille and serves as the grain component of our recipe.
Here’s what you need to prepare this ratatouille with rice recipe for your baby (From 8 months) (Yields approximately 21 oz (600g) of ratatouille and rice, around 3 meals!):
- [adinserter block="11"]
- 6 oz (170g) eggplant
- 6 oz (170g) zucchini
- 5 oz (140g) red bell pepper
- - 8 oz (220g) tomatoes
- - 2.6 oz (75g) onion (half an onion)
- - 2 small cloves (0.1 oz or 3g) garlic
- - 1.2 oz (35g) uncooked rice
- - 2 teaspoons thyme
- - 3 teaspoons olive oil
Let’s start with the eggplant. Wash it, remove the stem, peel it, and cut it into cubes. Place the cubes at the bottom of the steamer basket.
Next, do the same with the zucchini. Wash it, remove the stem, peel it, and cut it into pieces. Place the zucchini on top of the eggplant cubes in the steamer basket.
Now onto the bell pepper: Wash it, remove the cap, peel it (the skin is difficult to digest, so we avoid giving it to baby), remove all the seeds and white parts, and cut it into slices/pieces. Place the bell pepper in the steamer basket.
Now our tomato: Wash it, peel it, and cut it into pieces. Add it to the steamer basket (so far, the steps are nearly identical for all our vegetables, making it quite simple!).
And the onion: Cut it in half and keep one half, slice it, and place it on top of the vegetables in the steamer basket. Add 1 teaspoon of thyme on top, along with 2 cloves of peeled garlic.
Cooking can begin. I pressure cooked for 15 minutes using a pressure cooker, but I recommend steaming for 20 to 25 minutes. Let’s go!
During this time, we can take care of our rice. Take 1.2 oz (35g) of uncooked rice and cook it in boiling mineral water in a saucepan. Slightly overcook it for easier chewing and swallowing.
Once our vegetables are cooked, place them in the blender with our 3 teaspoons of olive oil, and blend on low power to retain some texture. Your baby is at least 8 months old, so we can start introducing small pieces… Set our ratatouille aside.
Our rice is cooked, yielding approximately 2.8 oz (80g). Add it to the ratatouille along with our second teaspoon of thyme. Mix well to ensure everything is evenly combined.
Our homemade ratatouille with rice recipe is ready, and your baby will enjoy it!
Enjoy, baby! (I know you’ll try it too ;))
