Recipe Steps
Today, we are going to prepare a simple pear compote recipe. For a baby’s first compotes, pear is ideal because it’s sweet, rich in nutrients, and well-loved!
Pear is one of the first fruits we introduce to babies, and they adore its taste and benefits. So, we won’t deprive them of its flavor and goodness.
Pears are rich in antioxidants, promoting a healthy digestive system and packed with vitamin E! A true source of goodness. Pears are naturally juicy, so we won’t need to add cooking water while blending, or we might end up with pear soup instead of compote.
I’ve chosen Guyot pears, but you can use Conference, William… the choice is quite varied.
Here’s what you’ll need to make this recipe for baby’s first pear compote (From 4 months, yields approximately 5.29 ounces (150g) of compote):
Ingredients
- 1 Guyot pear (7.4 oz before peeling – 210g)
- Water for cooking
Preparation
Start by washing the pear. Then cut it in half (I prefer not to peel it before cutting, as I find it easier this way!). Remove the ends, the stem, the core with the seeds, and even the fibers. Only the juicy flesh of the pear should remain. After peeling, I have about 170g (6.00 ounces) of pear. Cut it into coarse pieces.

Cooking
Cooking time begins. I always prefer steaming because it’s the best cooking method, that preserves the nutrients of the food and respects its taste!
So, place the pear pieces in your steamer basket, and it’s ready for 6 minutes of cooking (no more, or you’ll end up with compote that’s too watery in the end).

Once the cooking is finished, put the pear pieces into your blender. Blend until you have a perfectly smooth compote. You shouldn’t feel any pieces at all. But you’ll see, it takes very little time (a few seconds) because the pear is a naturally juicy fruit that blends very easily without the need to add cooking water.

Once I’ve obtained a smooth pear compote, I transfer it to a container, let it cool for a few minutes at room temperature, then place it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. And voila! My pear compote is ready to be served to my baby!
Storage
Once the pear compote is prepared, let it cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
- Storage: Transfer the pear compote to an airtight container or a clean glass jar with a well-sealed lid.
- Refrigerator: Store the pear compote in the refrigerator for a maximum of 2 to 3 days. Make sure to always keep it at an appropriate refrigeration temperature.
- Freezer: If you want to keep it longer, you can freeze the pear compote. Place the pear compote in an airtight freezer bag or a container suitable for freezing and label it with the date. It can be stored in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Tip: When thawing, place the pear compote in the refrigerator overnight or gently warm it in a water bath for a perfect consistency.
Don’t forget to check the smell and appearance of the compote before giving it to your baby after storage. If it seems to have gone bad or developed a strange odor, it’s better not to give it to your baby and discard it. Always prioritize freshness and food safety for little ones!
