Today we’re making a clementine and apple purée for baby. It’s a simple, fruity, quick and easy recipe! This smooth and vitamin-packed purée is perfect for little ones.
Many will tell you that clementines are safe from 4 months old. Technically, yes, it usually goes just fine (with supervision ;)). But I prefer recommending this recipe from 6 months, as clementines can be slightly acidic. They should be introduced with care to protect baby’s delicate digestive system, especially for those who have only recently started solids.
That said, if your baby suffers from reflux (GERD), I’d suggest skipping this purée, or at least checking with your pediatrician first.
Apples give this recipe a soft and smooth texture, along with lots of vitamins and a naturally sweet taste that babies usually already know and love, as apples are often one of the very first fruits introduced.
Here’s what you’ll need to make this clementine and apple purée for baby:
Ingredients
For one 150g (about 5 oz) serving of purée:
- 1 apple (Golden variety or similar)
- 1 clementine
Instructions
- Peel and chop the apple into small pieces.
- Peel the clementine, remove any seeds, and separate the segments. Try to remove as much of the thin membrane as possible.
Cooking the purée
- Steam the apple pieces for about 7 minutes, until soft but not too watery.
- Add the clementine segments during the last 2 minutes of cooking so they gently soften.
- Place the cooked apple and clementine in a blender and blend until perfectly smooth. The clementine juice should give the purée a lovely texture, but you can add a tiny bit of water if needed to adjust consistency.
- If you notice small bits of clementine membrane, you can pass the purée through a fine mesh strainer to make it extra smooth. Tip: For this small quantity, a narrow baby food blender works best to get that silky texture.
And there you have it: a bright, vitamin-packed clementine and apple purée your baby will love!
Bon appétit, little one! 😉
