Today, we’re introducing eggs into baby’s diet.
A few things to know about eggs for babies:
Eggs should be introduced around 6 months of age, don’t wait too long! Ideally, it should be introduced no later than 7 months.
Start with a cooked egg yolk, and offer just a quarter of an egg per meal. It can replace meat or fish in a meal.
As always, check with your pediatrician before introducing new foods like eggs.
Let’s talk broccoli.
Broccoli is packed with vitamins C and K, making it an excellent veggie for babies! Although it’s not the most popular vegetable in France (thanks to its strong taste), it’s a great one to introduce early in your baby’s food journey.
If baby doesn’t like it at first, don’t worry!
It often takes multiple tries before a baby gets used to a new taste. So be patient and keep trying 🙂
Here’s what you’ll need for this broccoli and cooked egg yolk puree (from 6 months, 2 servings):
Ingredients
- 6.35 oz broccoli (180g)
- 2.8 oz potatoes (80g)
- 1 very fresh egg
- 1 tbsp oil
Instructions
Start by boiling some water to cook the egg.
Quick tip: Never wash the egg before boiling, this can actually increase the risk of salmonella by pushing bacteria through the shell.
Once the water is boiling, gently add the egg and cook it for 11 minutes to get a perfectly hard-boiled egg.
When the time is up, transfer the egg to a bowl of cold water to cool it down and stop the cooking process.
In the meantime, wash your broccoli thoroughly and cut it into small florets, ready for steaming.
Wash the potato thoroughly, peel it, and slice it thinly.
Cutting it into thin slices will help it cook faster along with the broccoli.
Steam the vegetables for about 8 minutes, until soft and tender.
Meanwhile, peel the hard-boiled egg and cut it in half. You’ll only need half of the yolk for this recipe (which makes 2 baby meals).
Reminder: use just ¼ of a cooked egg yolk per baby meal.
Place the cooked vegetables in a blender along with half of the egg yolk and a little of the cooking water.
Blend until you get a smooth and creamy consistency that’s perfect for your baby.
Your baby’s purée is ready! I hope your little one enjoys it 🙂
Bon appétit, baby!
