Today, weâre enjoying some delicious Zucchini Parmesan Sticks, perfect for babies and the whole family!
This recipe is super easy to make and ideal for little foodies from 10 months old (once baby is able to chew well, itâs a great finger food option!).
Zucchini is mild and light, and it pairs perfectly with Parmesan, which adds a flavorful touch that babies love. And for parents? Itâs a recipe that works just as well for family dinners as it does for a quick appetizer!
You can cook these zucchini sticks in the oven or in the Airfryer, whichever you prefer, both methods work great.
Letâs get started!
Ingredients
For about 18 sticks:
- 1 medium zucchini
- 4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
- 4 tablespoons fine breadcrumbs (preferably salt-free for baby)
- 1 large egg
- A little olive oil for oven baking (optional)
Instructions
Wash and peel the zucchini, then cut it into sticks (about the size of a thick finger).
In one bowl, mix the Parmesan (finely grated) with the breadcrumbs. In another bowl, beat the egg.
Dip each zucchini stick into the beaten egg, then coat it in the Parmesan and breadcrumb mixture. For a crispy texture, make sure each stick is well covered!
Cooking
Option 1 : Airfryer
Place the coated sticks in the Airfryer basket (I like to line it with baking paper), in a single layer for even cooking.
Cook at 180°C (356°F) for about 10 to 12 minutes, until golden and crispy.
Check halfway through and flip them if needed to ensure theyâre evenly browned.
Option 2 : Oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F).
Place the sticks on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. You can drizzle a little olive oil on top for extra crispiness (optional).
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping halfway through so both sides are golden brown.
And thatâs it! Let them cool slightly before offering to baby as a finger food, always under supervision, of course!
Storage
These zucchini sticks are best enjoyed right after baking! But if youâve made too many:
- Refrigerator: Store them in an airtight container for up to 24 hours. To reheat, pop them in the oven for a few minutes to bring back a bit of crispiness.
- Freezer: You can freeze them after baking. To reheat, place them directly in the Airfryer or oven for a few minutes, no need to thaw beforehand.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use a different vegetable instead of zucchini?
Yes, you can try this recipe with eggplant sticks or even carrots (just note that carrots will need to cook a bit longer to stay tender).
What if my baby doesnât like Parmesan?
If Parmesan tastes too strong for your baby, you can replace it with plain breadcrumbs or a milder cheese like shredded Emmental.
Can I skip the breadcrumbs?
Absolutely! Breadcrumbs add a crispy texture, but you can use just Parmesan or even almond meal (if your baby isnât allergic to nuts).
Whatâs the best cooking method to keep them crispy?
The Airfryer is great for fast, crispy results, but the oven works well too. To get maximum crispiness, make sure not to overcrowd the sticks while baking.
