Today weâre making sweet potato fries for baby and the whole family!
This easy recipe is perfect for little foodies from 9 months old (as long as your baby can sit up well and eat independently, always under supervision). Sweet potato fries are⊠well, sweet, soft, and naturally perfect for babies starting finger foods.
Theyâre super simple to make, and can be baked in the oven or cooked in the Airfryer. Bonus: babies and parents love them!
Serve them on their own or with a little homemade ketchup, delicious!
Hereâs what youâll need to make these sweet potato fries for baby and the whole family (from 9 months):
Ingredients
For about 2 servings (baby + adult):
- 1 large sweet potato (about 12 oz / 350 g before peeling)
- 1 tablespoon of canola or sunflower oil
- 1 teaspoon of flour or cornstarch (optional, for extra crispiness!)
- A pinch of sweet paprika (optional, depending on baby’s taste)
Instructions
- Peel the sweet potato and cut it into sticks, about the size of a chunky finger. This size is perfect for little hands to grab and safe for baby to bite into (always under supervision). Try to keep the sticks fairly uniform for even cooking.
- Place the sticks in a mixing bowl, then add the canola oil and sweet paprika if you’re using it. If you’d like crispier fries, you can also add a bit of flour or cornstarch. Toss everything well until each fry is nicely coated.
Baking the sweet potato fries
Airfryer method
- Place the sweet potato fries in the Airfryer basket in a single layer so they cook evenly.
No parchment paper needed, just place them directly on the basket rack. - Cook at 350°F (180°C) for 12 to 15 minutes using the Airfry setting, shaking the basket halfway through. They should come out golden on the outside and tender on the inside.
Oven method
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C), fan setting (convection)
- Spread the sweet potato fries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure they donât overlap.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping them halfway through so they get golden and evenly cooked on all sides. (Keep an eye on them, oven times may vary!)
They’re ready! These sweet potato fries can be served on their own, or alongside meat, fish, or even with a little homemade ketchup, treat yourself!

Storage
These fries are definitely best right after cooking! But if youâve made too many:
- Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container for up to 24 hours. To reheat, pop them back in the oven or Airfryer for a few minutes to bring back their crispy texture.
- Freezer: You can freeze the fries before cooking. When you’re ready to serve them, bake directly from frozen, just add a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
