As we’ve seen in this article, it’s absolutely possible, and even super healthy, to make homemade yogurt for our little ones.
So here’s what I call the simplest recipe in the world:
Plain yogurt recipe for babies (from 6 months)
Personally, I love plain yogurt: no sugar, no additives! I find it so refreshing, and we enjoy the natural creamy flavor even more this way.
If the yogurt turns out a little tart, you can mix in a spoonful of homemade compote. You can also add a touch of honey or sugar (starting from 12 months only for those two ingredients).
Here’s what you need to make this plain yogurt recipe for babies (From 6 months, makes 7 small jars):
Ingredients
- 1 liter of whole milk
- 1 packet of yogurt starter (live cultures)
Plain yogurt for baby with a yogurt maker
As I mentioned in my article, I use a Severin yogurt maker. It’s very practical and super easy to use, there’s really not much to do!
Pour 1 liter of whole milk into a mixing bowl, then add 1 packet of yogurt starter (live cultures).
Whisk everything together until well combined.
Now pour the mixture into the yogurt jars.
Place the yogurt jars without their lids into the yogurt maker. Close the yogurt maker and turn it on.
Now, wait 8 hours!
Once the time is up, turn off the yogurt maker, seal the jars with their lids, and place them in the refrigerator. That’s it, your baby’s homemade yogurts are ready!
Plain baby yogurt without a yogurt maker (Using a steamer)
I personally use my Moulinex Companion to prepare yogurts without a yogurt maker.
To do this, start the steam mode at 113°F (45°C) for 10 minutes.
Once the time is up, turn off the device, quickly place the filled yogurt jars (without lids) in the steamer basket, then close the lid (do not restart the machine) and let the yogurts set for 8 hours.
Once the 8 hours have passed, close the jars with their lids and place them in the refrigerator. Done!
How to store homemade yogurt for baby
For storage, it’s very simple: keep the sealed yogurt jars in the refrigerator, and they can be consumed within 5 days.
Bon appétit to the whole family 🙂
