I have been cooking for several years now, and I absolutely love it. As a mom, I have acquired a variety of utensils and equipment in my kitchen, which brings me so much joy (I can’t resist getting a new gadget, and I might have a bit too many of them…).
When it comes to cooking for my baby, I have my favorite tools.
Steaming Baby’s Food
First and foremost, it’s important to know that steaming helps fruits and vegetables retain their nutritional value.
Initially, I used my Moulinex Cookeo Connect for cooking. It was a gift I received a month after my daughter was born, and it was a game-changer! A mom friend of mine, Pauline (thank you so much!), recommended it, so I asked for it as a birthday gift. Later on, I switched to a simple silicone steamer basket from Lekue (click here) or the multi-tiered steamer basket, also from Lekue, which is fantastic! It’s quite simple—I just need to boil water in a saucepan and place the basket on top!
The steamer basket is one of my top kitchen essentials for preparing my baby’s meals.
What to Use for Food Pureeing?
Personally, I use a small Braun blender (click here) for pureeing food, which is incredibly convenient and creates perfectly smooth purees and baby compotes. It’s ideal for the beginning stages of introducing solid foods. The narrower the blender bowl, the smoother the baby puree or compote will be. As my baby grows, I gradually reduce the blending speed to introduce more texture to her meals.
The mini blender is a must-have tool, especially during the first months of introducing solid foods!
Are Baby Food Processors a Good Alternative?
I love cooking, and I have a lot of kitchen equipment. However, I didn’t find the Nutribaby or Babycook particularly useful. Nevertheless, I recommend these baby food processors to parents who cook less frequently! These appliances are perfectly suited for the task.
Essential Accessories for Preparing Baby Food Personally, there are kitchen utensils I can’t do without, starting with:
The spatula! (Or scraper, or rubber spatula—call it what you like, but I prefer the silicone ones as they’re more flexible). The spatula allows me to not waste a single crumb and ensures that I scrape everything out of the containers without any leftovers (I hate wasting food…), making it an indispensable tool! I can’t imagine leaving even a few crumbs behind when they can end up in someone’s mouth (specifically, the baby’s mouth) 😉
The kitchen scale: I know, some might say you can estimate quantities, but I weigh everything to create accurate recipes and indicate the correct measurements. It’s also important for me to know the proportions of vegetables, starches, meat… Even though you develop a sense of it over time, I like to be precise.
How to Store Baby’s Meals?
I often prepare larger quantities of purees or compotes to save for later—a time-saving strategy, believe me.
That’s why I decided to invest in the Beaba silicone multi-portion molds, and I must say it was a great choice. I bought two of the 150ml version (I adjust the filling according to my baby’s age and the quantity I plan to defrost for her meals). I also have three 300ml Beaba containers. When I prepare two meals, for example, I sometimes keep one in the refrigerator for the next day (I allow a maximum of 24 hours for storing baby’s meals in the fridge). I use these containers because they are practical and provide a tight seal.

Now, I’m curious to know—what kitchen tools do you use to prepare your baby’s meals? 🙂
