Today we are going to cook black radish for our babies (It is also called Spanish radish). Black radish is a plant whose good root can be eaten, it is black on the outside and white in the inside. Black radish has a very mild taste but can slightly bite when eaten raw. Let’s see how we can prepare it for our babies for them to enjoy all its benefits!
Homemade black radish puree for babies
The virtues of black radish are exceptional: It helps our babies to digest, it has many vitamins to fight against winter diseases, and it stimulates the appetite!
I did not really know how to cook it to my daughter, because on my side I always ate it raw with a little bit of butter and salt, as with pink radishes. Finally I did my little researches, and we can cook black radish like any vegetable! Steam cooking will be ideal because it will perfectly preserve the nutrients of this black radish.
As I said above, its taste is rather sweet, so by mixing it with too many vegetables our baby will not appreciate it to its true value. For this puree I wanted to add a small potato and a teaspoon of mascarpone. To enhance the flavors, a pinch of nutmeg will be perfect! I want to specify that nutmeg can be consumed from 8 months, so do not hesitate to improvise and replace it with a pinch of curry for example for this recipe from 6 months!
This recipe is extremely easy and quick to cook, we love it!
Here is what you need to make this black radish, mascarpone and nutmeg puree for babies (from 6 months, 6.3oz) :
- [adinserter block="11"]
- - 4,2oz black radish (120g)
- - a small potato (1.8oz / 50g)
- - 1 tsp mascarpone (or sour cream or olive oil)
- - 1 pinch nutmeg (from 8 months)
We will start with the star of our recipe: the black radish. It is washed, peeled and cut into thin slices. You’ll see the slices look a lot like turnip slices, texture too! We place our slices in our steam basket.
We are now taking care of our little potato. It is washed, peeled and sliced. These slices of potato are placed in the steamer basket with the black radish.
Our vegetables are in our basket steam, cooking will start. 12 minutes of steam cooking for both, let’s start!
Once our vegetables are cooked, we put them in our blender, adding a little bit of water of cooking, and the teaspoon of mascarpone.
Let’s blend! (add more cooking water if desired to obtain the ideal consistency).
For the nutmeg, as I tell you above, from 8 months only. You can replace it with a small pinch of curry from 6 months. If your baby has never tasted these spices, do not hesitate to put a bit only on a portion of the puree before offering all the spicy puree, it will allow you to see if he likes before spoiling the whole dish 😉
Black radish, mascarpone and nutmeg puree for babies (from 6 months, for one portion of 6.3oz) is now over, baby will enjoy it! We can give him for lunch, accompanied by beef or even stronger meat like lamb. Baby can also enjoy it without meat, for noon or diner because it is very easy to digest!
Bon appétit baby 😉
